Dear Mr. President

Dear Mr. President,

It was just four years ago that I sent you my first, and only letter.  Since then I have emailed your office on numerous occasions to express my concern about various matters of national interest.

Today I am sending you my second and, most likely, last letter.

I've kept the promises I made to you in my earlier tome.  In the course of your first term I have given you the benefit of the doubt, defended you on occasion, and watched expectantly for the change & unity that were the hallmarks of your rhetoric.   I am deeply saddened, if not distressed that you have not kept your promises to the American people, and me among them.

If any President had momentum going into office, you certainly did.  Not only was Congress and the Senate at your beck-and-call, but the American people bestowed on you Rockstar status.  Instead of utilizing that formula to full advantage in making needful changes, you squandered it.  From the git-go you blamed, and continue to blame the prior administration for your inability to keep your own campaign promises.  Your tenure has ushered in a new wave of divisiveness in the land; and your sweeping reforms have left us nearly bankrupt - - literally and spiritually.

As you stand and gaze at the horizon that represents your next four years, I wonder if you will have any sense of the sadness your re-election brings to many hearts?  Yes, I realize you have a swell of support from half of the country; support which names entertainers, splinter groups and nearly the entire network of media.  It is of little import or comfort to those of us from the other half - - the 58,163,978 that did not vote for you - largely industrious, God-fearing common folk who have been paying & will continue to pay the way for a large percentage of your 61,170,408 fans.

Following your last election I stood hopeful.  Today I stand offended.  It will be difficult to support a government that:
  • Makes little & light of the now 53,000,000 abortions that have occurred in this country, including late term abortions, and abortion used as a means of birth control.
  • Considers homosexual unions equal to traditional marriage.
  • Gives little effort to crafting a budget, much less balancing it.
  • Moves in the direction of socialism, with little regard for the constitution.
  • Pares down U.S. military in the face of escalating global danger.
  • Panders to America's enemies.
  • Divides the country not only along the lines of liberal & conservative political views, but between races, socio-economic groups & religious worldviews.

That's my short list.  To which I add a growing concern about the seeming effort by your administration to play nice with everyone but the Christian.  Little-by-little you are marginalizing the moral.

Mr. President, I will continue to pray for you and our country.  As offended as I am at the trajectory of your leadership, I am absolutely certain your re-installment came as no surprise to God.  In many ways and on every level you have given godly people reason to remember that His Kingdom is not of this world.  We needed that, so I thank you.

In closing, I quote my first letter:

May that same God show you what to do with and for the people, Mr. President. His advice and His ways will keep you in good stead, and this country as well.

I pray you remember and take to heart, sir, that God will only bless the blessable.  I will remember likewise ... and that's a promise.

amen...
did you know Mr. P received actually 10 million LESS votes than he did the last time? that speaks to me also...
unfortunately, i believe he's too narcissistic to even entertain the idea of listening or reading anything we have to write, say, post or write on a wall...but our King responds to the obedient and ours is an Eternal kingdom where EVERY knee will bow and EVERY tongue confess to Jesus. THAT is my strength to go on

This one is for my files. If I sat and tried to say my heart, I could never have done it this well. I pray that he will read this, and I'm praying for his heart these days. God is in control, and never have we needed him more.

Beautiful words from your heart Kathleen.

You said what many people are thinking, Kathleen. I feel the same way, and am deeply grieved at the state our country is in now. And then the Lord gently reminds and encourages me, as you said, that this does not take Him by surprise at all. Resting in that and continuing to pray for our leaders.

Blessings,
Karen

Dear Kathleen, Well said!!!! I doubt that he will care what us common folk, especially Christians think. I also believe that he is leading or trying to lead this country to a Muslim state instead of what we were founded on. I am choosing to respect the office he holds, just not the man who holds it. I am so thankful that our Lord is still and always will be King of Kings and Lord of Lords and still on the Throne.

Amen to this Kathleen, it is perfectly said. I just couldn't agree more on any level of it. How I wish he would read this and really take it to heart. But knowing our God hears and cares about every word of it, is a comfort. I am going to be sending my hubby back later to read this as I know he too will love it. HUGS

Proud of you... Your supporters...which includes me... would vote for you...we need a real woman in the white House :) Its not any party or program that makes a successful nation... its a nation under God. Obedience to His Authority and not our own agendas... that brings us under the blessing and favor of the King of all KINGS... He is still on the throne...and He is still in control. But my heart grieves for this nation...for the nations...and the peoples. My heart cry...'Father, forgive us!"

thanks for sharing your heart's cry.

ps... in my meanderings across the web... I have collected a list of 'post election' writings... thinking of posting a link to them on my side bar...at my place. Do I have your permission to link to this post?

Go Kathleen! Thank you for putting into words all that has been churning around in my heart since Wednesday morning. Susan and I commented last night at our girls group how we are still a bit dumbstruck by the whole thing. It is all just so confusing. However your point about God being well aware of what was about to happen really gave me some peace. We prayed last night for the peace that surpasses all understanding to continue to surround us as we pray our way to a place of acceptance as well as motivating us to continue to pray for those who we find extremely difficult to pray for. We also discussed that the faithful remnant was also carried of into exile. God's faithful love and compassion was upon that faithful remnant even during their time of suffering. thank you for verbalizing what I have been thinking and feeling since Wednesday morning.

Blessings

I was so sad the day after the elections. But yes, God is in control and He wasn't surprised. I'm going to send you a letter by email. It was written by a Christian in Germany; very interesting.

Blessings and love,
Debbie

Oh how I love this post! Yes, we are so thankful that this has not caught God off-guard. Someone told me before the election that I needed to put aside my Christian values because "we aren't electing a pastor". How in the world can we as Christ-followers push God Almighty out of ANY aspect of our lives? ...Oh how we need to pray for our country & leaders... and our future generations. Thank you so much for this post!

I am so very grief-stricken, Sassy. I don't know what to do with it all right now. I look to you to lead us in this time; it might not be the responsibility you're longing for, but we need your encouragement and your voice of reason in this midst of great sadness.

Just a little something from Judy said...

My heart continues its heaviness over it all, except when I look up and know it is all part of a huge plan that our Soverign God of the uiverse knows about. That is the only time I don't feel the heaviness. You shared it all better than I ever could have, and just maybe God might use that in a powerful way. Your gifted way with words and your personal relationship with your God might just be something that is used to speak to and prod this president's heart. For this I will pray.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom and your heart.
